Let's talk about Rhythm Games

Posted on

This post has been born out of pure frustration. It is a post that I have been fearing that I may have to write for some time now, but events this week have tipped my opinion over the edge. As some of you may know, I've been involved in the Rhythm Game / BEMANI scene for the past just-over two years, and working hard as the main founder / lead of Flower since June last year. Since then, our team at Flower has grown to house some incredibly talented, caring, and fun individuals, and as such, we've developed stuff that goes way beyond our wildest dreams when we first started. The amount of work…

Calling Time

Today I'm going to put something to bed once and for all. Jack Woodman (previously aka paradox295), your comments, both recently and historically, regarding myself and my friends, are insulting, abusive, and in some cases infer threatening behaviour, which has absolutely no place in a public arena. The fact that you are fickle enough to call me a "prick" after I realised that all of the support that I gave you months ago was being ignored or was entirely useless is incredibly disappointing. Changing your public account to private for the sole purpose of doing the above (even when you already h…

Thank You

Posted on

2016 is here. A lot happened in the last year, so I feel like I need to give out some thanks where it's due. Individuals Richard R, Lucy J: You're some of the most genuine friends I've ever had the pleasure of knowing, and Japan Tour was one of the most memorable experiences I think I'll ever have. Thanks to you both. Additionally, many thanks to Lucy for keeping me sane in one of our family's more difficult weeks earlier in the year. Josh N, Charlotte S: Sure, I only met you for a few days in Japan, but you made those days some of the most memorable out there. Hopefully we'll meet again next…

Random Update & Japan Tour

Geez, it's been a while since a blog post. I keep saying I'm going to use this blog more, but I keep neglecting to. Maybe one day that'll change. Anyway, quite a bit has happened since my last post. I'm still moderating / sysopping on the Reddit OpenTTD network out of the goodness of my heart. I've been playing a lot of bemani, especially IIDX (where I'm now 8th dan), and getting stuck in with the UK community (who are all absolutely amazing, shoutout to you all). I also got the opportunity to head over to Germany for Gamescom this year for the first time with @al2k4 and @JoycieC, and fit in…

LAN Production & Streaming

Note: My primary distro of choice is CentOS, so where I'm using linux, commands will be the redhat versions (YUM etc) A fair few of you are probably aware that I regularly attend thebiggame's LAN parties. For the last event (TBG36), I was given the honour of heading up a streaming solution for the event. First of all, let me give a rundown of what our aims were: A 24/7 (ex outages) stream from a camera when there isn't anything going on The ability to switch over to games being played, ideally from anyone's PC, and visa versa Bringing in the sound feed from our stage microphone, such that str…

New beginnings

Wow, this is a lot cleaner and fresher than the last blog. I've nuked the last wordpress blog from orbit as it had practically nothing of use on it any more, and replaced it with the lovely Ghost running on NodeJS (which is an absolutely amazing system, seems like I've got something to replace PHP as my guilty pleasure). It's still in its infancy so there's no automagical tweeting, comments, or fancy stuff, but it's simple and effective and when I'm not tweeting every other day it's absolutely perfect. I might even end up using this more often in the future, who knows. The old blog will be ava…
